Introducing Dr. James M. Stonebarger

After receiving a water skiing injury in college and getting such good results from chiropractic care, Dr. Stonebarger set his sights on becoming a chiropractor.

“I wanted to do something in health care and I was thinking of dentistry, but after having such a great experience from chiropractic I changed my mind,” says Dr. Stonebarger.

Dr. Stonebarger began his education at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant. After completing his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, he was accepted at Parker Chiropractic College in Dallas, Texas. During his four years of studies at Parker, courses included biochemistry, a major emphasis on anatomy and human physiology, x-ray, diagnosis, chiropractic adjusting techniques and patient care in the Parker College Public Clinic. While at Parker College, Dr. Stonebarger obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in anatomy/physiology.

“Each year,” continues Dr. Stonebarger, “the staff and I attend various seminars to keep up with the latest in the latest research and newest developments in the chiropractic profession. That keeps our skills in top form.

He has recently completed the Certified Spinal Trauma Practitioner course which provides methods for the care of whiplash and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.

Dr. Stonebarger has helped thousands of Durant-area residents regain their health since opening his practice in 1993.

Dr Stonebarger Asks some important questions of interest to Durant residents - Chiropractor Durant Dr Stonebarger Asks...

Do nerves actually get pinched?
Chiropractors recognize two types of nerve disorders involved in subluxation. The least common is a pinched nerve that diminishes nerve supply to an affected organ or tissue. More common is the irritated nerve (facilitative lesion) which overexcites nerve communications to an affected organ or tissue. Chiropractic care has been shown to help with both types.
Is a muscle spasm a cause or an effect?
With the knee-jerk use of muscle relaxers, you'd think it was a cause. But it's an effect. Chiropractors know that bones don't move unless muscles move them. And muscles don't contract unless commanded by the nervous system. That's why your nervous system is the focus of our Durant chiropractic practice.
